Go Graffiti Grow

It is amazing how fast these plants grow.   Not only are the three branches still growing, but there are two buttons starting to form on an older branch.   If only I could supply more light to thicken up the branches. I probably have another1.5 months of cold winter before I can begin to take the plant outside occasionally.   Now comes the fun part-- keeping the size manageable.

Graffiti Growing

my physical grafitti plant has grown right through the winter. Even though the lighting conditions aren't the best, you still manages to grow. Unfortunately some of the strands are not as thick as they could be, however that is to be expected.

Moving Hylocereus

I moved my dragon fruit plants to a sunnier room.  They grow really well indoors, and I want to make sure they get enough light to encourage wide stems.  I'm hoping for flowers and fruits from at least one plant.  I have six altogether.

Seedling hylocereus

The second sizable branch is now growing.  I have a trellising system and will allow branches to hang from the pot.

Mystery Hylocereus

The mystery plant has grown some.  It took a tumble and damaged the latest new growth.  Oh well.

Delight

The delight pitahaya is growing spindly but at least it is growing.

Physical Graffiti

Both  physical graffiti plants are doing well.  The older plant has 5 branches sticking out beyond the trellis top.  It is a struggle to get the plant enough light so that the branches don't grow spindly.
The younger PG lacks 12" or so to get to the top.  It's pretty amazing that the one little piece made it through the cold winter of 13-14.  It certainly has a strong will to survive.  I kept all my dragon fruit inside this winter.

Yellow Dragon Fruit Plants

both plants are doing well.  Each plant has two sprouts, one bigger than the other.  I have added a form of trellis.  I think I will keep the plants lower and allow them to hang down from the pot, which will be placed on a pedestal.  These plants started out slowly.  I have had them since the beginning of September, and they are just now starting to grow.  they didn't start rooting until now November.

Selenicereus Megalanthus

I have had my yellow dragon fruit for nearly four months. It is finally starting to show growth. A new branch is budding out. However, there has been root development for the past month and a half.  Both cuttings aren't showing evidence of growth.

Sleuthing

Hmm...  I still dont know what type of hylocereus the plant is.  I am now leaning towards Halley's Comet.  It is possible that the plant is a white-fleshed variety, but white varieties seem to have about 3 to 5 spines per areole.  My plant has 2 to 3.  I have ruled out many of the polyrhisus varieties and yellow dragon fruits because the have little undulation and the areoles on some plants are too close together.  Thus I do NOT think my plant is Cebra, Rosa, Orejona, Lisa, San Ignacio, Armando, Valdivia Roja, Yellow Selenicerus, or El Grullo.  Other magenta varieties seem to have more undulation than my plant.  Besides, a study I read stated that magenta varieties tend to have few to no spines.  That rules out Sin Espina, Bien Hoa Red, and American Beauty.  I have been looking online at different hylocereus varieties, and I believe my plant resembles the Halley's Comet more than other varieties.

Growing Graffiti

Wow!  This plant has grown beyond my expectations.  It is only 9-months old.  I have it indoors for the winter, and it has about three areoles that are starting to grow new shoots.  I hope the new shoots will grow downward because I dont want the plant to get much taller.  Besides, to reach the light streaming through the window, the plant will have to grow in a downward direction.
