Bay Laurel

Cardamom

Ceylon Cinnamon

Nopal Cactus

Since a prickly pear seed has sprouted, I thought it might be nice to have another cactus for the leaves or nopales. Since a cactus pad that is stuck in dirt will root, I decided to purchase a few leaves from the local Mexican tienda. Hopefully, the refrigeration has not harmed them too much so that they will grow.

White Sugarloaf Pineapples

The white pineapples seem happy in their new home. The first picture was taken May 6, 2012 just after I received the plants. The other picture was taken today. Look at how much the pineapples have covered the surface of the soil in the pot. Yea! They are growing.

Surprise! It's a Prickly Pear Cactus.

I was working in my garden, and I saw a strange seedling. Upon closer inspection, I saw a cactus. Cacti are not native to my area, but I do eat prickly pears, a.k.a "tunas", from time to time. A seed must have sprouted. I am excited about my little surprise. I removed the seedling from the garden because it was shaded and I was afraid I might step on it. I hope that I can get it to grow, and in a few years I might have my own homegrown cactus fruit.

Pineapples 2010: Fruit Update

Just another picture of the fruit. They are doing well.

Pineapples 2010: Aerial Suckers

The pineapple plants are now forming aerial suckers. Each plant has one sucker that I can see. It is funny how in tune these two plants are. I would think that the plants will probably produce a few more suckers. When the suckers are larger and the pineapples are through forming, I will plant the suckers so my pineapple production can continue.

Pineapples 2010

The pineapples are looking good. I am going to have to find a way to prop the fruit up. I don't want them to break off because of the weight.
